Maryna Viazovska received the László Tóth Fejes Medal at the Rényi Institute

Maryna Viazovska, a Ukrainian mathematician who became world-famous for solving the 8- and 24-dimensional sphere packing problem, received the Fejes Tóth László Medal yesterday. The Rényi Mathematical Research Institute intends to recognize an internationally significant mathematical work in the field of geometry with this award every year.

The Rényi Institute is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a series of lectures. The ceremony on October 28 will take place in the main hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, featuring lectures by two mathematicians who have been awarded the Fields Medal, Wendelin Werner and Alessio Figalli. In the afternoon, the institute's current and former directors and leading researchers will present Rényi's past, its achievements, and discuss the challenges of the future.
