László Lovász received a prestigious award, the Erasmus Medal was awarded to the Abel Prize-winning research professor for his consistently outstanding international scientific work by the European Academy of Sciences.

The list of speakers for the conference in Philadelphia (USA) in July 2026 has just been announced. László Lovász, Research Professor at the Rényi Institute, has been invited by the organisers to deliver the Abel Lecture.

The leader of the Hungarian team, senior research fellow at the Rényi Institute, Viktor Harangi, gave an interview to the Trend Fm news program about the progress of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the tasks, the preparation of the competitors, and the impact of the Olympiad on their future opportunities.

The Index journalist asked Balázs Szegedy, who with his research group researches the background of AI, its developability, internal filters, and machine learning models, about the possible emotions and self-awareness of artificial intelligence.

The Hungarian team finished 14th among the 110 participating countries. All of our competitors are returning home with medals: Mátyás Bodor and Ábel Szakács won gold medals, Pál Czanik, Martin Holló, and Boldizsár Varga won silver medals, and István Ádám Molnár won a bronze medal.

András Némethi, Gábor Tardos, Balázs Szegedy and Péter Pál Pach also gave presentations at the International Congress of Basic Sciences (ICBS) in recent days. The congress aims to exchange knowledge and collaborate in the fields of mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering.

The MTA-Rényi-ELTE Mathematics Didactics Research Group, led by Csaba Csapodi, was one of the winners of the 2025 application of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' Public Education Development Research Program. The application aimed to improve student understanding through methodological support for mathematics teachers and teacher candidates.

András Gilyén, a mathematician at the Rényi Institute, also won a grant in this year's MTA Lendület Programme call for research groups.
