Non-algebraic congruences and radical theory
Dedicated to the memory of Richárd Wiegandt (1932 - 2025)
Abstract:
The recent definition and development of a theory of congruences in non-algebraic settings has made a significant contribution to the general theory of radicals. It is now possible to extend Hoehnke's radical from algebraic settings to non-algebraic radical theories. This led to an almost verbatim characterization of the non-algebraic radical theories. But it also brought quite unexpected differences to the fore. Here we will give a brief overview of a few aspects of the traditional radical theory of associative rings and then compare this to the corresponding theory of connectednesses and disconnectednesses for topological spaces and graphs in terms of congruences.
